A search for a suspect on Monday afternoon concluded when K9 Rino located him hiding in heavy brush after tracking to his location. Jeremy Kimla (8/10/87) was arrested on multiple charges after fleeing on foot from what was intended to be a simple traffic stop.
At approximately 1:30pm, Deputy Ciolino attempted to stop a green Ford Ranger after observing the truck run a stop sign on Las Lomas Drive in Punta Gorda. The truck accelerated after turning onto Green Gulf Blvd, driving into an open field. The male driver (later identified as Jeremy Kimla) was observed by the deputy exiting the driver’s door as it was still moving and jumping the rear fence of a neighboring property.
Multiple deputies responded to the scene and began to set up a perimeter, and soon after Sgt. Doherty and K9 Rino began a track from the truck to locate the suspect. K9 Rino tracked to a location of heavy brush on Chula Vista Drive, alerting Sgt. Doherty to the presence of the suspect. Sgt. Doherty began to verbally announce the presence of the canine, and released him into the brush after receiving no response. K9 Rino began to work through the brush, at which time Kimla began to yell at Sgt. Doherty that he would come out of the brush if K9 Rino was called away. K9 Rino was called back and Kimla was taken into custody.
During the investigation, it was discovered that the displayed tag on the vehicle was not assigned to the Ranger. A bag of marijuana was also located inside the ashtray.
Jeremy Kimla was transported to the Charlotte County Jail and face the following charges stemming from this incident:
Fleeing or Attempting to Elude LEO
Driving While License Suspended 3rd or Subsequent Offense
Fail to Register Motor Vehicle
Fail to Have Motor Vehicle Insurance
Possession of Marijuana, <20 grams
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Jeremy Kimla has eight previous citations for driving on a suspended license.
