As part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over safety campaign, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office will be concentrating enforcement efforts on impaired driving through the Labor Day holiday. CCSO deputies are joining law enforcement and highway safety agencies across the nation to remove impaired drivers from roadways and save lives.
No matter where you drive in the United States, it is illegal to drive with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher. Every year, about one-third of all deaths on our roads involve drunk drivers. In 2015 alone, 10,265 people were killed in drunk driving crashes—that’s one person killed every 51 minutes every day of the year.
To Arrive Alive, always:
- Drive sober; never drive impaired.
- Buckle up, ever time.
- If you do drink, plan ahead. Designate a sober driver or use a ride service.
- If you see an impaired driver on the road, call us at 941-639-0013, or *FHP (*347). This could save a life!
“Each year nearly 11,000 people die on the road nationally due to drunk driving. In order to stop this deadly epidemic, our deputies will be out in full force through the Labor Day Holiday looking for drunk or impaired drivers,” stated Sheriff Bill Prummell.
There is no excuse for drinking and driving. With a ride sharing app or a quick call for taxi or a local sober ride program, you can stay safe, protect others and avoid arrest.
