December 22, 2025 – Port Charlotte, FL
A woman was arrested after slicing a man’s arm with a knife at a homeless camp in Port Charlotte.
Just after noon on 12/21/25, Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office units responded to the intersection of Kenesaw Street & Cedarwood Street in Port Charlotte in reference to a physical altercation with injuries between two homeless subjects.
Upon arrival, deputies located a male victim visibly bleeding from his left forearm. They observed a cut to the victim’s arm that was approximately 3 inches long and half an inch deep. A deputy applied a tourniquet on the victim’s upper arm to help control the bleeding before EMS responded and took over medical treatment.
Prior to the victim being placed in the ambulance, the victim advised a white female, identified as Stephanie Hernandez (1/25/1985), was the one who had cut him. According to the victim, Hernandez had started a fire near his campsite the previous night, and when she came to his campsite the day of the incident, he told her he did not want her there, prompting the argument. The victim advised that this argument is what led to Hernandez then picking up a knife and slicing his arm in a horizontal motion.

Road Patrols units located Hernandez outside of her tent in the campsite approximately 100 feet from where the incident occurred. As she was escorted from the woods and into the roadway, the victim was in the ambulance with a deputy when he observed her walking across the street and positively identified her as the suspect who cut him with a knife.
“Especially around this time of year, lots of people are a bit more on-edge than usual, and this is typically felt even more by those who are down on their luck or struggling. That being said, it is no excuse for a violent act of this type. Arguments happen, but how you handle those moments is part of what defines you. I hope this incident is put to rest and that the young lady learns how to better manage herself in the future.”
Sheriff Bill Prummell
Following an investigation, Hernandez was placed under arrest for Aggravated Battery Causing Great Bodily Harm. At the time of this release, she is being held at the Charlotte County Jail without bond.
