CCSO Detective Don Woelke Discusses Human Trafficking with Staff at Florida Gulf Coast University

January 28, 2026 – Charlotte County, FL

On January 27, Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Detective Don Woelke had the opportunity to speak at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), where he shared his expertise on combating the issue of human trafficking with staff members. Detective Woelke is currently assigned to an FBI Task Force, where he collaborates with federal and local law enforcement agencies to investigate complex cases involving human trafficking and exploitation. Through this partnership, he plays a critical role in addressing crimes that extend beyond jurisdictional boundaries.

His presentation at FGCU focused on how trafficking occurs, who is most at risk, and the warning signs that can help identify potential victims. Detective Woelke strongly believes that education is the most powerful tool in the fight against human trafficking. Understanding how traffickers operate helps prevent exploitation, encourages individuals to speak up, and strengthens communities to stand together against this form of modern-day slavery. When more people are informed and vigilant, fewer victims fall through the cracks, and the overall impact of human trafficking can be significantly reduced.

Detective Don Woelke has proudly served with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office for more than 20 years, dedicating the last decade of his career to combating child exploitation and human trafficking throughout Charlotte County and Southwest Florida. His work focuses on protecting the most vulnerable members of our community and holding offenders accountable for some of the most heinous crimes.

“Although I wish there was no need to have a detective specifically assigned to this type of work, the unfortunate truth is that human trafficking and exploitation is an issue that requires dedicated efforts. That being said, you won’t find anyone on this planet more dedicated than Detective Woelke in his line of work. He makes this agency, and all the agencies with which he partners, very proud. There is nothing enviable about what he does, but he does it with complete professionalism and determination. I thank him for his commitment to protecting those at risk and putting a stop to crimes that can only be described as evil.”
