During the last week of April, forty Sheriff’s Offices throughout the State of Florida participated in the Florida Sheriff’s Association Task Force “Operation School Zone Safety.” Our mission as local law enforcement was to provide a high level of patrol in school zones to ensure our children’s safe return to school from spring break.
There were over 5200 hours dedicated to this operation. Participating Agencies issued over 3000 Warnings and nearly 2600 Citations for Unlawful Speed, 54 Warnings and 174 Citations for Passing a School Bus Signal and over 900 Warnings and 52 Citations for various bicycle and pedestrian violations. This week-long Operation ultimately resulted in 105 arrests.
Although this statewide operation has ended, Sheriff’s deputies across the State of Florida will continue aggressively enforcing the traffic laws in and around school zones and bus stops through the end of the school year. Your Florida Sheriffs are committed to maintaining the quality of life Floridians have come to expect. We are equally committed to ensuring the safety of our children by educating the motoring public and enforcing our established traffic laws. Please stand with us as we continue to keep our children safe. Thank you for your support.
