Secret Hiding Spot, Not So Secret – Trafficking Charge

Charlotte County, May 3, 2020 – While patrolling in the area of Riverside Drive in Punta Gorda, deputies witnessed a white Volkswagen roll through the stop sign. Deputies also observed a possible illegal tint violation.

A traffic stop was conducted on the Volkswagen and deputies made contact with driver Amanda C. Landron 7-26-95 and the passenger, Kenneth J. Myers 6-28-90.

During the traffic stop, deputies checked the tint and the result of the reading showed a 20% sunscreen material, 8% lower than the legal limit. At this time, Myers advised he held a medical marijuana card but did not have any with him. Deputies inquired if there were any weapons, drugs, or illegal items inside the vehicle and both Landon and Myers advised there were not.

Utilizing the K9, a free air sniff was conducted on the vehicle which ended in a positive hit. The occupants were once again asked whether there were any illegal drugs inside the vehicle to which they once again advised there were not.

While searching the vehicle, deputies noticed the area surrounding the gear shift was not securely fastened. When removed, a plastic bag containing loose crystal substance as well as two smaller baggies containing crystal substance was found. This substance was identified, and tested positive as approximately 54.22 grams of Methamphetamine

Landron was placed under arrest and transported to the jail without incident, where she is charged with Amphetamine Trafficking More Than 14 Grams and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Amanda was additionally issued warnings for the traffic infractions.
