Illegal bake sale lands two Fort Lauderdale men in jail

Charlotte County, FL-

Approximately 1:45pm Thursday afternoon, a rental vehicle identified as a 2020 GMC Yukon was traveling above the speed limit heading northbound near mile marker 159 when a CCSO deputy activated the emergency lights and proceeded with a traffic stop.

The vehicle pulled to the left side of the roadway and the deputy approached the vehicle. At this time, a strong odor of marijuana was detected by the deputy. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Shavon C. Morgan (5/3/1995) who was driving with a suspended license as of 2017. The passenger was identified as David Joseph (11/30/89). Both occupants were asked if they held a medical marijuana card, or had purchased Hemp or CBD. They advised they were not in possession of either and there was nothing inside the vehicle.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies found the following:

  • large cake weighing over 4 lbs testing positive for THC
  • scale with marijuana residue
  • plastic bag weighing 132.5 grams including 113 pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes
  • 27.1 grams of marijuana inside a device utilized to make pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes
  • 109 bear-shaped bottles of THC drinks located inside a cooler

Inside an additional storage bin, deputies located the following items all testing positive for THC:

  • Seven Captain Crunch treats individually packaged for a total of 684.1 grams.
  • Seven Rice Crispy treats individually packaged for a total weight of 699.7 grams.
  • Seven Trail Mix treats individually packaged for a total weight of 773.4 grams.
  • Seven Coco puffs treats individually packaged for a total weight of 803.6 grams.
  • Six Fruity Pebbles treats individually packaged for a total weight of 592.1 grams.
  • Eight Fruit Loop treats individually packaged for a total of 835.1 grams.
  • An aluminum tray with 53 individually packaged cake pops.
  • 31 brownies and 7 cookies.

Inside the vehicle were several items consistent with marketing a bakery business such as branded labels, tablecloths, serving trays, and bags. Through deputies investigations, it was determined that the items within the vehicle were being transported to sell.

Shavon C. Morgan (5/3/1995) is charged with:

  • Knowingly Driving While License Suspended or Revoked
  • Possession of Marijuana over 20 grams
  • Marijuana – Possess with Intent to Sell
  • Drug Paraphernalia – Possession or Use Of

David Joseph (11/30/89) is charged with:

  • Possess Cntrl Sub WO Prescription
  • Drug Paraphernalia – Possession or Use Of
  • Other Contr Subst Sched III or IV – Possess with Intent to Sell

“These types of edible THC products are manufactured and marketed towards children. Protecting our youth from the possible exposure to drugs is a top priority of this Office and we will continue to work proactively,  towards a drug free community.”
