Update: January 11th, 2021-
On September 8, 2019 Charles L. Davis (03/26/1970) was located in Charlotte County, Florida and arrested for Domestic Battery. The arrest stemmed from an incident that occurred on September 7, 2019, which was investigated by Deputy Christina Erickson. Davis was transported to the Charlotte County Jail where he was held without bond. On September 8, 2019 Davis attended first appearance and his bond was set at Ten Thousand dollars.
On October 12, 2019 Davis was bonded out of the Charlotte County Jail, however he was re-committed by the bonding agent on January 1, 2020 due to violation of his bond terms.
On December 30, 2019 Charles L. Davis was re-arrested pursuant to the issuance of a warrant for the new charge of domestic battery by strangulation, which is a felony.
Davis was brought back to the Charlotte County Jail where he was housed in both medium custody housing and the medical wing due to a pre-existing serious health condition. During his incarceration at the Charlotte County Jail, inmate Davis was transported from the jail to the hospital on two occasions, once on December 25, 2020 and the second on January 1, 2021. During this timeframe he was pending transfer to the Department of Corrections hospice care, where he was to serve the remainder of a 40-month sentence issued in the Circuit Court on September 29, 2020. Davis was unable to be transferred to the custody of the Florida Department of Corrections due to COVID-19 restrictions.
On January 1, 2021 inmate Davis was transported from the Charlotte County Jail to Bayfront Hospital Port Charlotte for continued treatment of his serious medical condition. On January 10. 2021, while in the care of medical staff there, inmate Charles L. Davis succumbed to his illness.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit was contacted per protocol and conducted an investigation surrounding the death of inmate Charles L. Davis. The case was declined by the Office of the Medical Examiner due to Davis’ history of illness and his death being attended by a physician.

January 10, 2021-
Charlotte County, FL- An inmate at the Charlotte County Jail was transported to a local hospital after a medical issue occurred while being housed at the facility. Charles Davis (03/26/70), was being treated by medical staff when he passed away today from medical complications.
There is nothing suspicious in nature about the death but because he was an inmate, Major Crimes detectives were contacted and are completing an investigation.
Next of kin has been notified.
