CCSO to increase presence during holiday weekend

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, Punta Gorda Police Department, and Florida Highway Patrol will once again step up their traffic and marine enforcements during the 4th of July weekend.

Each year, we see drivers who are operating under the influence of alcohol or other substances. In today’s age, with so many options to include designated drivers, Uber, Lyft, and more, there is simply no excuse for driving impaired. Be responsible and plan accordingly if you intend to partake.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Marine Unit will also have heightened awareness and enforcement on the waterways to ensure the safety of all throughout Independence Day weekend. The intent of the increased law enforcement presence on the water is to promote boater safety and BUI enforcement, as well as to discourage careless boating. Alcohol use continues to be the leading contributing factor in recreational boating fatalities. Not only is this dangerous for the captain, but also every person aboard the vessel and surrounding area.

It’s simple – if you choose to get behind the wheel or helm and you are under the influence, you will be arrested.

If you aren’t sober, hand them over.

Be safe, be smart, and have a great holiday!
