Charlotte County, FL – June 3, 2022

Members of the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Juvenile Unit teamed up on May 27th for an enforcement sweep targeting the sale of alcohol to minors. The operation included compliance checks on 8 commercial establishments licensed to sell alcohol products throughout Charlotte County.

Of the 8 establishments, only one was found in non-compliance for selling (tobacco) to a minor:

Gulf Station, 3666 Tamiami Tr. Port Charlotte, FL

Commercial establishments checked that DID NOT sell to a minor:

Tom’s Mini Mart – 618 Cooper St. Punta Gorda, FL

Circle K – 6220 Marlympia Way Punta Gorda, FL

Circle K – 6117 Duncan Rd. Punta Gorda, FL

Circle K – 5169 Duncan Rd. Punta Gorda, FL

USA Grocery – 2390 Duncan Rd. Punta Gorda, FL

Chevron – 4968 Tamiami Tr. Port Charlotte, FL

Lucky Marathon – 4276 Tamiami Tr. Port Charlotte, FL

The goal of this enforcement is to curb the illegal sale of alcohol products to minors, and encourage proper checks of identification. The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office will continue to work constructively with retail establishments where violations occur to ensure that employees are educated regarding Florida law. Sheriff Bill Prummell urges all individuals to report the illegal sale of alcohol and tobacco to law enforcement.

“My deputies do these checks periodically to make sure that the law is followed and to protect our kids. It is critical that businesses in Charlotte County do their part by checking identification every time. If members of the community observe a business selling to a minor, we ask that they let us know so we can make sure it is addressed appropriately.”
