Port Charlotte Man Wanted for Child Pornography Charges Found in Marion County

January 10, 2024 – Charlotte County, FL

A Port Charlotte man is in custody on charges of child pornography after detectives received numerous cyber-tips and discovered the material on his cell phone.

In December 2023, Charlotte County detectives, along with members of the FBI Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, were made aware of potential illicit material on a cell phone through cyber-tips. These tips led to the investigation of Tyler Paul Cavins (12/04/1996).

When contact was made with Cavins, he refused to speak with detectives. The cellphone that allegedly contained the inappropriate material was seized and a search warrant was executed.

During forensic examination, child pornography files were located on that device. Following this, an arrest warrant was granted for Tyler Cavins.

On 1/10/2024, Cavins was located in Marion County, Florida where he was taken into custody for the possession of child pornography.

Tyler Paul Cavins (12/04/1996)

“There is no place in Charlotte County, or anywhere for that matter, for material of this nature. I applaud my detectives and the Task Force for finding this individual and bringing him back to be held accountable. Make no mistake about it, this is about abusing children; and anyone who enjoys watching that in Charlotte County will find themselves in my jail.”

Sheriff Bill Prummell

Cavins will be transported back to the Charlotte County Jail to face charges of Possession of Child Pornography.
