Person of Interest in Nasturtium Drive Shooting Charged with 2nd Degree Murder

December 13, 2024 – Punta Gorda, FL

Tiffany Diann May, the person of interest in a homicide investigation on Nasturtium Drive in Punta Gorda, has been officially charged with 2nd degree murder.

On Monday, December 2 at approximately 1am, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of 16045 Nasturtium Drive, Punta Gorda. Upon arrival, deputies located Denis “Doc” Carmody (11/22/1961) deceased at the scene, suffering from a single gunshot wound.

During investigative interviews, witnesses placed Tiffany Diann May (05/21/1987) as being present on the property with Denis.

Witnesses advised that May had Carmody’s chrome .38 caliber revolver in her possession. This was later confirmed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) through the presence of May’s DNA on the firearm. FDLE also confirmed the bullet that struck Carmody as being a ballistic match to the recovered chrome .38 caliber revolver.

May was located by law enforcement in the area the day of the incident and was arrested for other separate charges. She was transported to the Charlotte County Jail, where she has remained since the incident.

Based on the investigation and subsequent evidence, Tiffany Diann May has since been charged with Murder in the 2nd Degree. She remains at the Charlotte County Jail, now held without bond.

“I want to thank my Major Crimes Unit for their diligence in this case, and our partners at FDLE for helping to confirm what my detectives pieced together as quickly as they did. Our community, especially the friends and loved ones of Mr. Carmody, are anxious to see this case resolved and justice served. My heart goes out to them, and I hope this development eases their frustration, although it will not heal the pain they have been feeling in his loss.”
