September 8, 2025 – Port Charlotte, FL

A man was arrested for burglary and sexual battery on a known woman while she slept.

Shortly after 5am on Monday, September 8, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a woman who stated that she woke up to a known subject, identified as Braxton Jeramiah Jacobs (01/03/2005), in her bedroom holding a knife toward her as he performed sexual acts. The victim advised that he attempted to make her engage in the acts, but she refused. Following this, Jacobs then left in an unknown direction with an unknown method of travel.

The victim was able to take an audio recording during the incident and provided it to detectives.

Detectives then located Jacobs at his residence on Westchester Blvd. in Port Charlotte. He was transported to the Major Crimes Unit office for an interview, initially denying the claims. As the interview progressed and Jacobs was made aware of evidence against him, to include the audio recording and biological evidence at the scene, he provided a confession to the acts.

“This is a disgusting and inexcusable act, and I commend the victim for her quick-thinking to obtain evidence that will help put this man behind bars. It is a testament to her strength and courage. I want to thank my detectives for finding this predator and obtaining a confession, though it does not undo the harm he caused.”

Sheriff Bill Prummell

Jacobs was placed under arrest on felony charges of sexual battery with a weapon, burglary with assault or battery, and false imprisonment of a person against their will. He was transported to the Charlotte County Jail, where he is being held without bond at the time of this release.
