October 12, 2026 – Port Charlotte, FL
A man was arrested after firing guns off recklessly in a Port Charlotte neighborhood.
Just after 5pm on Friday, October 9, 2026, Charlotte County deputies responded to the area of Starlite Lane in Port Charlotte after receiving multiple calls alleging a man was discharging firearms in front of his residence. According to witnesses, the man fired multiple guns into the ground and into the air, aiming high above houses nearby. He then went back inside his home. Deputies advised residents in the area to shelter in place as they investigated due to the possibility of him firing additional shots.
The man was identified as Travis Allan Price (8/11/1989). As deputies set a perimeter around Price’s residence, they made phone contact with him and tried to convince him to come out peacefully. Price refused. Over the next several hours, deputies continued to speak with Price. During that time, Price would come out the front door of the home, remaining inside the screened-in area, and then go back inside saying he changed his mind.

Due to the involvement of firearms and several witness reports that he had been firing them recklessly, deputies established a takedown plan to bring Price into custody. When Price exited into the screened-in area, they implemented that plan, utilizing non-lethal bean bag rounds to subdue and handcuff him. The strategy was successful and Price was placed under arrest. Price was then transported to a local hospital before being cleared for additional mental health treatment.
“It is not often that we ask our residents to shelter in place, and I know it can create a sense of fear or uncertainty. I want to thank my community members for their cooperation with that, allowing my deputies to focus on the unpredictable and dangerous situation. I am grateful that we were able to get to him without any further escalation and be able to get him some help. This is about as good an outcome as we could hope for.”
Sheriff Bill Prummell
A criminal history of Price revealed that he has an active domestic violence injunction, prohibiting him from having a firearm. He was charged with Possession of a Firearm in that circumstance, Discharging a Firearm in Public, and Improper Exhibition of a Firearm.
