A suspect is wanted on charges of Murder and Home Invasion Robbery with a Firearm, stemming from an investigation that began on August 20th, 2017. Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit have identified and obtained a warrant for Edwin Lee Randall (DOB 5/27/1983) for his involvement in the crime.
On August 20th, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office responded to 2871 Eleventh Street in Englewood at approximately 10:01am Sunday morning for a reported disturbance. Upon arrival, several subjects were observed sitting on the curb in front of a neighbor’s residence, two of which reported minor injuries. The subjects sitting outside advised deputies that the suspects were possibly still inside the residence.
Upon entering the residence, deputies observed a deceased black male inside. The other male was determined to have fled the residence.
Investigators began interviewing the remaining witnesses on scene, and were advised that two unknown black males had entered the residence. One of the males was observed to have a firearm. They demanded cell phones and attempted to remove a safe from the bedroom. While the black males were attempting to remove the safe, two of the residents tried to stop them and obtain the weapon, at which time an altercation began. The witnesses heard several gunshots during this time while they were fleeing the residence.
During the altercation between the two black males and the two residents, one of the black males succumbed to injuries inside the home. The deceased male was later identified as Charles Williams (DOB 8/24/1965). The other male fled the scene, leading to the alert issued in reference to the maroon Grand Marquis. The Grand Marquis was later located in Sarasota with the assistance of the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office and the Sarasota Police Department.
Based on the information obtained through witness statements, combined with evidence recovered during scene processing, Major Crimes detectives have requested and obtained a warrant for the arrest of Edwin Lee Randall for Murder and Home Invasion Robbery with a Firearm.
The Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Unit is working with the US Marshal Task Force to locate Edwin Randall. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, or Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS.
