A suspect in several recent arson investigations is now in custody after witness statements and evidence collected from the various scenes connected him to the crimes. Brandon Michael Wilson (10/23/1996), of Port Charlotte, is now at the Charlotte County Jail, facing several Arson and Violation of Probation charges.
Wilson became a person of interest in the investigations after a witness came forward and provided Detectives with photos of a vehicle in the area of the brush fires that occurred on Mayville Ave and McManaway Ave. The photos showed a silver Kia with several distinguishable features. Detectives were able to search registration records for the vehicle pictured, leading them to Brandon Wilson.
An investigatory traffic stop on Brandon Wilson and the above-mentioned Kia was conducted in the afternoon hours of Tuesday, February 6th. A shotgun was located in the vehicle, which is in violation of his current felony probation. A gas can was also in his possession.
Brandon Wilson was transported to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Mid-County Office to speak with Detectives. Evidence collected at the scenes of the McManaway and Mayville fires, witness statements, and a post-Miranda statement from Brandon Wilson led to his arrest on the following charges:
590.28(1) – Malicious Land Burning (2 counts)
806.01(1) – Arson of Dwelling or Structure
948.06 – Violation of Probation (4 Counts)
The addresses related to these charges are:
23344 Mayville Avenue (vacant land)
23375 McManaway Avenue (vacant land)

Investigations into the other arsons occurring during the same period and over the past weekend are still active and ongoing.
