Juvenile Unit Conducts Checks for Underage Alcohol and Tobacco Sales

Members of the Juvenile Unit teamed up on Friday, August 31st, for an enforcement sweep targeting the sale of alcohol and tobacco to minors. The operation included compliance checks on eleven commercial establishments licensed to sell alcohol and tobacco products throughout Charlotte County. Ten of the establishments checked were in compliance, and one was found not in compliance after selling tobacco to a minor.

Commercial establishments checked that DID NOT sell alcohol or tobacco to a minor:

RaceTrac, 1520 El Jobean Road
Basia’s, 1334 El Jobean Road
Mobile, 1275 Tamiami Trail,
Pik-N-Run, 829 Tamiami Trail
Circle K, 41 Tamiami Trail
Marathon, 4048 El Jobean
Fine Tobacco, 2150 Tamiami Trail
Sunoco, 2483 Tamiami Trail
Wawa, 2525 Tamiami Trail
Irish Market, 36510A Tamiami Trail

Commercial establishments that DID sell alcohol or tobacco to a minor:

7-11, 3362 Tamiami Trail, Tobacco (Clerk issued a Notice to Appear)

The goal of this enforcement is to curb the illegal sale of alcohol and tobacco to minors, and encourage proper checks of identification. The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office will continue to work constructively with retail establishments where violations occur to ensure that employees are educated regarding Florida law. Sheriff Bill Prummell urges all individuals to report the illegal sale of alcohol and tobacco to law enforcement. Report violations to the Sheriff’s Office at (941) 639-2101.
