Marlympia/US17 Death Investigation

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office was contacted early this afternoon at approximately 12:40 pm regarding a report of a body being sighted by a passerby in a drainage ditch at the intersection of U.S.17 and Marlympia Way, Punta Gorda.

Initial inspection of the body was that of a still unidentified male. The body did not display any obvious signs of trauma. The remains were subsequently removed by the Medical Examiner where an autopsy will be performed. On scene investigators advised that this person may have suffered a medical event, however the investigation is continuing.

If anyone has any information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Major Crimes Unit of the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office at 941-639-2101.

Update: The deceased has been identified as Larry Neil Perkins (10/14/61). Family has been notified.

  1. Terry, a homeless man, always went to the shell station on Marlympia each morning for coffee and doughnuts. About 40+years of age? They would be able to identify him.
