Juvenile Unit Conducts Checks for Underage Alcohol and Tobacco Sales

Members of the Juvenile Unit teamed up on Friday (10/19) for an enforcement sweep targeting the sale of alcohol and tobacco to minors. The operation included compliance checks on 10 commercial establishments licensed to sell alcohol and tobacco products throughout Charlotte County. Nine of the establishments checked were in compliance, and one was found not in compliance after selling tobacco to a minor.

Commercial establishments checked that DID NOT sell alcohol or tobacco to a minor:

Murphy USA 26359 Jones Loop Rd., Punta Gorda
Walmart Liquor 5001 Taylor Rd., Punta Gorda
Shell 26520 Jones Loop Rd., Punta Gorda
Sunoco 10001 Tamiami Trail, Punta Gorda,
Circle K 11161 Tamiami Trail, Punta Gorda
Publix 3941 Publix, Punta Gorda,
Circle K 3949 Tamiami Trail, Punta Gorda,

Commercial establishments that DID sell alcohol or tobacco to a minor:

Pilot Gas Station 26505 Jones Loop Rd., Punta Gorda (Clerk issued Notice to Appear)

The goal of this enforcement is to curb the illegal sale of alcohol and tobacco to minors, and encourage proper checks of identification. The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office will continue to work constructively with retail establishments where violations occur to ensure that employees are educated regarding Florida law. Sheriff Bill Prummell urges all individuals to report the illegal sale of alcohol and tobacco to law enforcement.
