Narcotics Investigation Leads to Search Warrant; Trafficking Charges

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit served a search warrant on Friday morning at 306 Fitzhugh Avenue in Punta Gorda. Bobby Gene Mays III (8/28/92) was arrested as a result of the investigation on multiple drug charges. The Punta Gorda Police Department and members of the Sheriff’s Office Intelligence, Fugitive Apprehension, and Canine Units also assisted in the search warrant service.

Upon entering the residence, Narcotics detectives located two people inside; Bobby Gene Mays III and Toshebia Amelia Burroughs (08/15/1986). Mays was immediately detained on outstanding narcotics charges stemming from the investigation that led to the search warrant. Neither subject agreed to speak to detectives on scene.

A search of the residence resulted in the seizure of 34.3 grams of crack cocaine and 2 grams of marijuana from the bedroom identified as belonging to Mays. A large pyrex bowl containing cocaine residue was also located in the bedroom’s closet.

Bobby Gene Mays III is charged with Trafficking in Cocaine, Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Sell, Possession of Marijuana Less than 20 grams, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
