Juvenile Unit Conducts Checks for Underage Alcohol and Tobacco Sales

Members of the Juvenile Unit teamed up on Wednesday (6/19) for an enforcement sweep targeting the sale of alcohol and tobacco to minors. The operation included compliance checks on thirteen (13) commercial establishments licensed to sell alcohol and tobacco products throughout Charlotte County. Deputies utilized two investigative aides to check for both alcohol and tobacco compliance in each establishment. Twelve of the establishments checked were in compliance.

One commercial establishment was found in non-compliance for selling alcohol to a minor:
Pik N Run – 829 Tamiami Trail

Circle K – 41 Tamiami Trail
Race Trac – 1529 El Jobean Road
Gribbles – 1334 El Jobean Road
Pik N Run – 20101 Peachland Boulevard
Walmart – 375 Kings Highway
Walmart Liquor – 375 Kings Highway
Save a Lot – 1825 Tamiami Trail
Circle K – 1783 Tamiami Trail
Speedway – 1470 Tamiami Trail
Target – 1400 Tamiami Trail
Walmart – 1529 El Jobean Road
Dollar General – 20657 Kenilworth Blvd

The goal of this enforcement is to curb the illegal sale of alcohol and tobacco to minors, and encourage proper checks of identification. The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office will continue to work constructively with retail establishments where violations occur to ensure that employees are educated regarding Florida law. Sheriff Bill Prummell urges all individuals to report the illegal sale of alcohol and tobacco to law enforcement.
