From the desk of Sheriff Prummell

As you are all likely aware, tragedy struck our community on Wednesday morning in the form of a domestic murder-suicide. I first want to express my sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased.

I also want to share a couple of things that I observed while on the scene and in the time that has since passed. I would like to thank the individuals living in the immediate area for their cooperation with deputies. In a situation with an unknown factor and a potential threat, you came through for us with witness accounts and adhered to the instructions given by my deputies – whether it was evacuating or sheltering-in-place, and did so without issue.

I’d like to thank the general public for avoiding the area and allowing us to do our jobs unimpeded. Additionally, I’d like to thank you all for your sensitivity to the matter on social media. While I understand the situation is “big news”, I appreciate the fact that those who knew the parties involved did not share the names publicly. I even saw some people commenting and making sure no one did release that information. Imagine being a loved one of the parties involved and finding out through Facebook what happened. Your consideration in this situation has not gone unnoticed.

Lastly, I’d like to thank Chick-fil-A for their generous donation to feed my staff who were out on scene, and my new friend, Kaleb, for showing his support of our efforts with some fresh, homemade cookies. I can’t tell you how much comfort it brings to know that our community supports us.

At the end of the day, all of these things prove what I have been saying all along – Charlotte County is the best. Incidents like what happened on Wednesday are very rare here, and I am glad to know that when it does, our community has our backs.

Thank you, all.
