UPDATE- February 3, 2022: The victim has been identified as 59-year-old James M. Gunter. Next of kin has been notified. At this time, we are awaiting autopsy results to confirm cause of death.
Port Charlotte, FL – February 2, 2022
While completing yard work inside the Maria Manor community, located at 4158 Tamiami Trail, the maintenance crew noticed a foul smell. After walking around the area, they discovered a dead body located just behind the community entrance wall. The crew then contacted the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office at 10:27 this morning.
At this time, we can confirm that the deceased is a white male and all community members are accounted for. The CCSO Major Crimes and forensics units are on scene.
