Arrests Made in String of Copper Wire Thefts from Construction Sites

Charlotte County detectives have arrested two suspects in a string of copper wire thefts targeting construction sites in the Port Charlotte area. Logan Leigh Morris (03/02/1994) and Berry Joseph Scott Jr. (06/29/89) were arrested on Tuesday, closing the investigations into four thefts of wire reported over the past week. In total, over 670 feet of copper wire was reported stolen.

Logan Morris was identified as a suspect after a receipt bearing her name was located at one of the crime scenes. It was later determined that Morris’s boyfriend, Berry Scott Jr., exchanged the stolen copper wire at Allied Recycling for cash, providing false identification.  Both suspects provided sworn statements post-Miranda prior to their arrest.

Logan Morris is charged with Burglary, Grand Theft, and Violation of Probation. Berry Scott Jr. is charged with Burglary, Grand Theft, Dealing in Stolen Property, and providing False ID to Secondary Metals Recycler.

Charlotte County currently has over 700 new construction permits. Help keep our community crime free by remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious activity at these sites.
