Probationary Search Leads to Drug Arrest and Seized Firearm

Deputies with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office assisted State Probation with a probationary search at 27100 Sunnybrook Rd Unit #9, standing by as security for the Officer during the residence check. The subject of the search was Stacey Wright (4/26/94).

Stacey Wright was present and provided entry into his residence, at which time the deputies stood with Wright as the Probation Officer searched the bedroom. Shortly after the search began, the Probation Officer announced, “I found a gun,” causing Wright to attempt to flee the residence. Wright was stopped and detained by the deputies present.

State Probation officers continued their search, locating 2 bags of marijuana in a backpack, containing a total of 842.5 grams. An additional bag containing 22 grams was located in a nightstand. The gun was identified as a Glock 9mm Model 19. It was accompanied by two magazines containing ammunition. Stacey Wright is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Stacey Wright was arrested by the deputy on scene and charged with:
Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (Felony)
Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute (Felony)
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Misdemeanor)

State Probation additionally charged Stacey Wright with Violation of Probation.
